Where To Find Inspiration

Sharmaine KruijverSometimes we just need a little inspiration to get us going, and sometimes we need a lot to pull us out of that inspiration rut. So where do you go? What things do you do to help the creative juices flow?

A great source of inspiration, that I have found is blogs and a little blog hopping can go a long way to filling the empty inspo cup! Not only are there the blogs of creative people. but there are challenge blogs, company blogs, arty blogs, crafty blogs...the list goes on! Sometimes all it takes is a little blog surfing to get you going but sometimes you’re so far down it's going to take more than a surf to get you going. So what do you do? Well I thought I would share with you a few of the amazing places I have found recently.

(Read on...)

Inspire Company, is just that!! Amazing projects, with step by step how to's, write ups on amazing people and lots of ideas for scrappers and non-scrappers.

Inspire Company

Colour Lovers is a site that will help anyone with a colour combo dilemma!! A site that takes the drama out of deciding by giving you a looksee at the colour combo so you will know it will work.

Sometimes you need to see something to get an idea. For a feast of eye candy check out Inspiration Blog, Design Sponge, Whip Up, Living Creatively or Get Crafty.

And don't forget that the scrapbooking manufacturers also have their websites and these are a great way to see whats coming out and how products are being used. Check out some of the ones that I know of American Crafts, sassafras Lass, KI Memories, Making Memories, Basic Grey, Bazzill, Hambly, Buzz and Bloom, Jenni Bowlin, Heidi Swapp, Michael Miller Fabrics, Raspberry and Scenic Route.

Off the net there are amazing places to find inspiration too. Listening to music can evoke emotions needed to create. Magazines are full of colour, words and photos and are wonderful way to relax back into creating. Taking a walk and seeing new things, playing with the kids and really listening to what they say, relaxing in the tub and letting your mind just go, taking a moment to write something down - all these things are great ways to find inspiration. I would love to hear what you do for inspiration, what blogs or sites you visit and what methods have you found that work for you.

Will leave you with my best tips of all. Open your eyes and see life as it is, see the everyday and really appreciate it, the good and bad. Don't stress about not being creative today but know that you're living a life that is creative and that's more important, so live it.

Great article Sharmaine. I find it hard when you want to scrap but nothing comes to me. Great photos usually help. When I say great photos, they are just photos of the kids doing everyday stuff. Not portraits or anything. Just fun photos of kids being kids.

Then if I need help...off to the local LSS to buy some new PP. That usually helps me. While I'm there I check out the work around the shop, look at new products. Gets the mind thinking and moving in the right direction again.

If something doesn't come to me, I just go with the flow when it does. Can't "make" it happen. So I will clean and usually something I pick up, as in kids mess, will inspire the next LO. LOL

Thanks for all the links Charmaine. Blog hopping is a lot of fun - you can get lost for hours in cyberspace. It always amazes me how much creativity there is out there - aren't we lucky to live in the age of the internet?

Most days are creative days and there is no problem - just sit down and the thoughts and ideas flow. Other days the mind is an empty vessel. Best then to get outside, water the garden, go for a walk in the bush or on the beach, look at the sky while you fold the washing. Shrug your shoulders. Another day will bring ideas and time. I think worrying about not getting a page done is a big brake on creative flow. The world isn't going to end tomorrow, there's still time to do a few more pages. Sometimes we try too hard.
