Cuttlebug Dies In A Sizzix Machine

by Jill on January 16, 2010

This post is a response to a reader question asked via the comments section of the blog.

Karen H asks:

“I am just about to buy a sizzix and have been told two stories that is can cut cuttle bug dies and others say no… do you know anything about that?”

The short answer is YES you can use Cuttlebug dies and embossing folders in the original (red) Sizzix machine, the Sizzix Big Kick or the Sizzix Big Shot. My understanding is the compatibility of any die is dependent on the size of the opening on your machine and also the “sandwich” or the stack of plates that you use with particular dies or embossing folders.

Cuttlebug Dies In the Sizzix (Original) Machine

Cuttlebug dies and embossing folders are compatible with the original Sizzix machine with one provisor – you’ll need to add a Sizzix System Converter to your machine first. There’s an excellent video demonstration of using Cuttlebug dies and embossing folders in the original Sizzix at the WonderHowTo site.

Splitcoast Stampers has some excellent information on the use of Cuttlebug dies and embossing folders with the Big Shot machine in this thread in their forum. I’d just like to point you to the bottom of the first post where you’ll find a number of user compiled files. There’s a pdf titled “Big Shot Sandwich Stacks Sheet1.pdf”. At the bottom of the first page of the document, there’s a description of the stack of plates required when using Cuttlebug dies and embossing folders in the Big Shot machine.

If you were wondering about Cuttlebug dies and embossing folders in the Big Kick machine, there’s a video demonstration at the WonderHowTo site. It looks super easy with this Sizzix model! If you’re reading via the website, just click play to the right of your screen to watch. If you’re reading via email or RSS, click on the link supplied to access the video.

Thanks for your question, I hope I’ve answered it sufficiently. Good luck with your Sizzix purchase. ;)
